Reports to department leadership and is responsible for managing the professional and operational activities of the pharmacy to ensure high quality, accurate, efficient and complete pharmacy services. Maintains overall responsibility for the daily planning, work scheduling and coordination, and operational performance of the Pharmacy department. Provides administrative, regulatory and medication safety leadership and oversight. Coordinates and supervises departmental activities to include but not limited to adherence to regulatory requirements, effective staffing levels to meet organizational demands, staff competence and medication safety. The manager retains 24-hour responsibility, but may utilize supervisory staff to operationalize activities. The manager is expected to independently carry out assigned responsibilities but seeks guidance from the director and/or upper management given unusual or unanticipated circumstances that require deviation of policy/practice or allocation of funds to resolve.
Professional knowledge of areas of responsibility in order to direct planning and implementation at a level normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy from an ACPE accredited school of pharmacy. Must possess a Virginia Pharmacy License or be eligible for licensure within three months of hire. ASHP-accredited PGY-1 residency or equivalent experience preferred. Minimum of three years pharmacy practice / operational experience in an acute care hospital necessary. Previous management and pediatric experience is desirable. Must be able to plan, supervise and establish a professional working environment within areas of responsibility. Besides managerial activities, must possess the ability to identify problems and implement solutions for operational and organizational issues. Interpersonal skills necessary in order to direct and assign work to subordinates, explain hospital and department policies and procedures and communicate effectively with other professionals.

For other outdoor entertainment, there is camping, biking and hiking at Virginia Beach's Seashore State park; exploring the Great Dismal Swamp national wildlife preserve just south of Norfolk; and Busch Gardens near Williamsburg is one of the country's most popular amusement parks.

Surrounding the hospital and the medical center is an historic neighborhood highlighted by parks, churches and schools.
Just two miles from the hospital is Norfolk's downtown business district and waterfront. The hospital and Eastern Virginia Medical School are situated in a restored area which abounds with historic homes and two-and three-story townhouses and apartments. Restaurants, health clubs, shops and art galleries are a short walk away.
Norfolk and the surrounding area abound in history, highlighted by Colonial Williamsburg, Yorktown and Jamestown. Museums and historic homes in Norfolk reflect the city's 300-year history as an important seaport and region of commerce.
For snow skiing and mountain trail hiking, the foothills of Virginia and the Blue Ridge Mountains are within a few hours' drive.
The region is served by Norfolk International Airport, a few miles away from downtown Norfolk. Also servicing Norfolk is Amtrak with direct connections to Washington D.C. and New York City along with connecting cities.
